Next week’s Betting on Sports Europe conference will feature extensive analysis and discussion of major developments taking place in the European betting industry.
Hosted at Stamford Bridge, the home of 2020/21 UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea FC between 9-11 November, the event will see six tracks of panels and presentations, including the Betting Around Europe track where an ensemble of continental leaders will discuss the past, present and future of the continental wagering sector.
Operators and other key industry players have been watching regulatory developments in Germany closely this year, as the country’s states implemented the Fourth Interstate Gambling Treaty (GlüNeuRStv), and so have the speakers on the opening panel of the Betting around Europe track.
Moderated by Scott Longley (CEO, Clear Concise Media), the session will feature Dr Matthias Kirschenhofer (Executive Board Member, Sport1 Medien AG), Joerg Hoffman (Partner, Melchers) and Dominik Beier (Managing Director, e|motion), who will evaluate the prospects of a ‘market exodus’ from the German sector and how and whether operators have been able to address the nation’s highly taxed and restricted online market.
The next session will see Quirino Mancini (Partner, Tonucci & Partners) and Diane Mullenex (Head of the Global Telecom and Gaming Practices Partner, Pinsent Masons LLP) trade opinions on the future representation of the sports betting and igaming industry at the EU in the aftermath of the European Commission’s rejection of regulators’ calls for the creation of an ‘Expert Group on Gambling’.
They will discuss how the industry can be represented at a continental level as the EU develops its own regulatory regime covering high-risk sectors such as betting and gaming, whilst also implementing e-ID proposals, the Digital Services Act and the AML Directive.
Coming up next will be a unique demonstration of industry knowledge and analysis as the well-known and widely-renowned Big Betting Balagan Podcast conducts a live recording. Hosts Lee Richardson (CEO, Gaming Economics), Dan Phillips (CEO, NEL Advisory) and Vigne Kozacek (Consultant, Innovation Squad) will be joined by Chris Elliot (Senior Associate, Wiggin) to discuss major developments throughout Europe.
Commenting on the event, Chris Elliott said: “Always well attended, Betting on Sports has become one of the go to events on an already busy industry conference schedule. The agenda and quality of speakers provides genuine insight into current trends in the sector.”
Moving on, the focus of the track will return to regional developments, specifically Italy. Questions regarding industry sustainability in the country as regulators conduct extensive reform with the planned introduction of the 2022 Budget Law will be answered by Alessio Crisantemi (Direttore Responsabile, Gioconews), Marco Castaldo (Director – Betting and Online Gaming, Astro), Stefano Sbordoni, (Managing Partner and Founder Sbordoni & Partners), and Quirino Mancini (Partner, Tonucci & Partners).
Finishing the track and the second day of the conference will be an evaluation of the significance of the rapidly expanding US sports betting and gaming industry for its European counterparts – with panelists discussing how US sports can compete with popular sports such as football and tennis on the other side of the Atlantic and maintain control over their betting product.
Appearing on this panel are Omer Dor (CEO, Sports IQ), Susan Hensel, (Founder & Partner, Hensel Grad P.C) and Andy Wright (CEO, Sporting Group), who will share views on the aforementioned topics, in addition to the impact of US developments on European products and services and the growing influence of data, in a conversation moderated by Marc Thomas (Partner, Propus Partners).
The Betting Around Europe track is just one of six tracks taking place at the Betting on Sports Europe event, alongside Innovation & Operations, the Payment Expert Forum, the Future of Sports Betting, Leadership, and Marketing and Affiliation.
In addition to the panels and speeches, the three day extravaganza will also include an extensive programming of networking events during evenings, culminating with the Sports Betting Hall of Fame induction ceremony and conference closing party at the famous Natural History Museum on 11 November.
