Smarkets has confirmed the appointment of Ladbrokes veteran Matthew Shaddick as its new Head of Political Markets.
Shaddick led Ladbrokes Politics trading for 18-years, and is replacing former Smarkets political lead Sarbjit Bakhshi, who left the company at the start of the year.
Smarkets backed the appointment of highly regarded Shaddick, who will be tasked with maintaining politics as a ‘key pillar’ of Smarkets betting inventory and brand identity.
CEO Jason Trost, a noted political betting enthusiast commented on the appointment: “I’m delighted there are very few people out there with the same level of experience and expertise in this area as Matt. I have no doubt that his appointment will help us improve our political offering even further – both on the Smarkets exchange and on our sportsbook app, SBK.”
Shaddick will lead a dedicated trading team working with market analyst Patrick Flynn, as Smarkets aims to become the go-to destination for political betting catering to the market’s diverse enthusiasts.
Furthermore, Shaddick will be sharing his thoughts on ‘Smarkets Politics Prices’ newsletter, providing insights and analysis on the latest movements of politics non-stop markets.
“This was an unmissable opportunity to join a company that has the best political betting product in the industry. I have already been bowled over by the enthusiasm and passion of my new colleagues and can’t wait to start working with the whole Smarkets team,” Shaddick stated.
“Political betting has been a huge growth area over the last decade and there is no other company I’d rather be joining. I’m hoping to play my part in helping Smarkets expand the world of forecasting and prediction markets to an even wider market.”
