What began as a casual Friday bingo outing turned into an astonishing triple-win triumph for Exeter resident Sharon Discombe, who walked away with a staggering £20,200 in prizes — all in a single session.
Sharon, 61, had visited Mecca Bingo Exeter on North Street with her husband, Darren, for a routine night out, as they had done for decades at the popular bingo club. However, this visit will go down in local bingo, if not UK bingo, history. Not only did Sharon scoop an incredible £20,000 full house during the Mega Money Live national game — she followed it up with two further £100 wins before the night ended.
A jubilant Sharon said: “I’ve been playing bingo for over 30 years and I’ve never seen anything like it — and I certainly never expected to be the one it happened to. When that £20,000 win landed, the club just exploded. People were cheering, clapping — I was shaking and crying. It didn’t feel real.”
Sharon was dabbing numbers on her paper tickets when she instinctively decided to check her digital tablet.
“I looked at my tablet and realised I only needed two numbers. I said to my husband, ‘I need 58 and 47.’ Then 58 came out — and immediately after, 47. I just stared. It was unbelievable.”
The timing couldn’t have been better. Sharon and Darren launched their taxi business earlier this year, providing accessible transportation for wheelchair users, taking them to appointments, social outings, and waiting while they shop. The couple is now able to expand their service, and has already invested Sharon’s winnings in a new taxi to expand their service and help more people in the community.
Sharon explained: “A lot of taxis don’t take wheelchair users, but ours are specially adapted. My husband bought a new taxi that evening, and it means we can keep growing and helping others – it’s the best feeling.”

While most players would consider such a jackpot more than enough excitement for one evening, Sharon’s bingo luck continued. Within the same session, she twice claimed £100 wins, completing a rare hat-trick.
“The staff were laughing and shaking their heads — like, ‘not again!’” Sharon joked. “It was surreal. The first thing I did afterwards was buy the Mecca team a round of drinks. They were celebrating with us just as much.”
Assistant manager Jackie Andrew recalled the moment the big win landed:
“She was in complete shock — shaking so much she had to hand her tablet to Darren. Then to see her win again and again afterward… the atmosphere was unbelievable.”
A bingo fan herself before joining Mecca three years ago, Jackie added: “I just love bingo! I love everything about it. Seeing one of our regular players win and celebrate with the community is what makes this job so special.”
For Sharon, the night was “pure magic.”
“You dream of winning once,” she said. “To win three times in one night? It still doesn’t feel real.”
