A Bongo’s Bingo bash at Keele University in Stoke-On-Trent last month was forced to be evacuated before its scheduled finish after a 15-man violent brawl erupted.
Those attending the sold-out show said the evacuation took place before the final game could be played, with parts of the staging reportedly collapsing and debris visible near the performance area. Audience members were asked to leave as a precaution while emergency services attended the scene. At least one person was treated for minor injuries, though no serious injuries have been confirmed.
Eyewitness accounts from the evacuated show
Attendees to the popular bingo event described a sudden halt to the evening after the issue with the stage became apparent. One guest said the atmosphere “changed instantly” once staff intervened, while another said blood splatters could be seen on the floor as people were guided out of the venue.
Officers were scrambled to the venue following reports of a fight involving around 15 people, which left a man in his 40s needing hospital treatment for minor injuries.
Staffordshire Police confirmed that a 34-year-old man from Newcastle was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of assault by beating. He was later released on bail, subject to conditions, while enquiries continued. Police appealed for witnesses to come forward, stating: “Officers attended the scene and spoke to everyone involved.”
A spokesperson for Bongo’s Bingo said the company was cooperating fully with venue operators and relevant authorities, adding that customer safety “remains a top priority”.
A spokesperson of the UK bingo/rave events company founded in Liverpool in 2015, said:
“We take any incident seriously and are reviewing the circumstances around the Stoke event to ensure appropriate measures are in place for future shows.”
