A delighted Mecca Bingo player in Eltham has landed a £50,000 National Bingo Game jackpot after making a last-minute decision to visit the club — just in time for Christmas.
The win took place early in December, during the National Bingo Game at Mecca Bingo, Eltham Hill. The player, who wishes to remain anonymous, is a long-time regular customer at the South London venue but does not usually attend Tuesday evening sessions, which are typically quieter.
The £50,000 jackpot was triggered when the player successfully matched all the numbers on her ticket and claimed a full house within the first 16 numbers being called — the qualifying condition for the National Bingo Game jackpot.
Prize Money Plans
Michele Axford, duty manager at Mecca Bingo Eltham, was overseeing the game when the claim came in and described the moment the scale of the win became clear.
“When the claim came in the caller was shaking like a leaf, because she could see on her screen that the jackpot had been triggered, but the winner had no idea just how much she had won. When we announced the size of the prize, the winner was speechless. Everyone started clapping and she had to go outside for some fresh air.”
Once the initial shock had worn off, the winner shared her plans for the prize money.
“Once the news sank in, she was so happy and said she is planning to treat herself to a new car,” Axford added.
Axford also highlighted how the win underlined the unpredictable nature of the National Bingo Game.
“The winner doesn’t usually play on a Tuesday but said that she had made a last-minute decision to come along to our evening session. Tuesday nights are one of our quieter evenings, but the win just goes to show that the National Game jackpot really can be won at any time.”
Axford, who has worked in the UK bingo industry for 35 years, said the moment was special not just for the winner but for the entire club.
“I just love working with people and making them smile. All the customers were so happy for our winner — the £50,000 National Bingo Game jackpot is a real cause for celebration.”
