One of the saddest parts of reporting UK bingo news is when a popular bingo club that has served the local community for decades, closes.
In a surprise announcement, Mecca Bingo Leeds Mayfair closed its doors after more than three decades of being at the heart of the Leeds community.
Announced via a Facebook post just a day before its closure on March 9th, it is certainly the end of an era for the Leeds Mayfair bingo community.
The post read:
IMPORTANT UPDATE – CLUB IS NOW CLOSED
Mecca Leeds Mayfair is now closed. We’ve had an amazing 30 years as part of the incredible local community and want to thank every single one of you for your loyalty and support!
There’s no need to worry about your Mecca Bingo journey coming to an end, our sister club in Crossgates is ready and waiting to welcome you. Plus, you can also take your experience online wherever you are at meccabingo.com

No official reason has been given for its shock closure. However, sources close to Bingo Daily have revealed the alleged reasons for its closure.
Our source, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Bingo Daily, the UK’s leading Bingo News portal, that “the landlord would not extend the lease on a short-term basis”.
Mecca Bingo, owned by the Rank Group PLC, has closed a large number of its bingo clubs since the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite a recent increase in the numbers attending its Mecca clubs and better Profit figures for its parent group, Mecca Bingo is continuing to decrease its land-based operations in the UK.
In the case of Mecca Bingo Mayfair Leeds, it is understood that the short-term proposal by the landlord was not favourable enough for the UK bingo company, so they pulled the immediate plug.
It is believed that four of its staff will move to the Mecca Bingo Crossgates venue also in Leeds.
The shock news of its closure sparked an outpouring of sadness on social media. Many former patrons expressed their disappointment at the closure and complimented its staff on how they operated the venue.
Bingo Daily has reached out to Mecca Bingo for comments but has yet to receive an answer. We will, of course, update the article should any further information come to light.
