A Mecca Bingo customer in Glasgow welcomed the New Year in style after winning a £50,000 National Bingo Game jackpot at the operator’s Glasgow Forge club on New Year’s Eve.
The win took place on Wednesday, 31 December, during an afternoon session at the Duke Street venue, next to Forge Market. The player, who wishes to remain anonymous, is a long-time regular customer at the club and had made a last-minute decision to attend the session.
Jackpot triggered within the first 16 calls
The £50,000 prize was triggered at the popular bingo club when the player successfully completed a full house within the first 16 numbers being called, the qualifying condition for the National Bingo Game jackpot.
According to Mecca Bingo, the UK bingo operator, the session was quieter than usual, with many customers preparing for Hogmanay celebrations later that evening.
“Everyone in the club was so happy for her.”
Stephanie Donlin, duty manager at Mecca Bingo Glasgow Forge, was overseeing the session and described the moment the win was confirmed.
“It was relatively quiet for a Wednesday afternoon as lots of people were getting ready for Hogmanay. The winner had made a last-minute decision to come along to the bingo to get out of the house and she was totally shocked when she realised just how much she had won.
“Everyone in the club was so happy for her. When the win was confirmed, they started cheering.”
Donlin added that the result underlined the unpredictable nature of the National Bingo Game.
“The latest jackpot is proof that you never know when the jackpot is going to be won. I can’t wait to make more winners in 2026.”
Strong year for Glasgow bingo players
The New Year’s Eve win followed a strong year for Mecca Bingo customers across Glasgow. Mecca said players across the city’s three clubs won a combined £7.5 million in prize money during 2025, alongside more than £32 million won by Glaswegian players on Mecca’s online games.
