A spur-of-the-moment night out has changed one Hamilton woman’s life, after she landed a massive £50,000 jackpot at Mecca Bingo Hamilton on November 1st.
A Last-Minute Change of Plans Leads to Big Win
Leanne McDougall, 39, had no idea her evening would end in celebration when plans with friends fell through at the last minute. Originally meant to head elsewhere, Leanne and her friends Emma and Jason instead made their way to Mecca Bingo on Douglas Road — and it proved to be a winning decision.
Emma, who had never played bingo before, may now be known as Leanne’s lucky charm.
“I knew I needed number 23, but I wasn’t really paying attention because I just didn’t think it was going to happen,” Leanne recalled. “When it did, I thought I’d won the usual £1,000 jackpot – then the caller said it was £50K! I was in complete shock! It still hasn’t sunk in.”
Shock, Celebration, and a Touching Tribute
Leanne’s full house came during the National Bingo Game and, remarkably, within the first 16 calls on a digital tablet. The moment sparked huge excitement inside the club.
“The atmosphere in the club was amazing, and I wish I had a video of my friends’ reactions,” she said. “I’ve been coming here for 15 years, so the staff all know me, and they were just over the moon.”
Her first call was to her mum, who introduced her to bingo.
“We’ve had a tough few years after losing some family members, so it felt like they were looking down on me that night,” Leanne shared. “I went straight to her house and we celebrated together.”
Future Plans: Cars, Travel, and Birthday Dreams
Fresh off passing her driving test, Leanne plans to use the winnings to buy a new car, treat her family to Disneyland Paris, and enjoy a dream 40th birthday holiday in Dubai.
