By | March 25, 2025

Whilst the more recognised retail bingo chains are closing their bingo venues left, right and centre, thankfully, it is the independents who are leading the way and giving bingo fans exactly what they want – BINGO!

Announced on Monday, Real Fun Group Ltd has purchased the Merkur Bingo Lowestoft and will rename it Apollo Bingo Lowestoft. The acquisition of the Suffolk bingo venue means the Real Fun Group Ltd now boasts an increasingly impressive and impressively increasing portfolio of 11 UK bingo venues.

A LinkedIn post by the Real Fun Group Ltd read:

“We are thrilled to announce that as the proud new owners of Merkur Bingo Lowestoft, we’ve had another club officially join the Real Fun Group family, which will now be known as Apollo Bingo Lowestoft!

This marks an exciting new chapter for us as we continue to grow and bring the best bingo experience to even more communities. We can’t wait to welcome both new and old faces through our doors and make Apollo Bingo Lowestoft a place filled with fun, laughter, and of course, lots of big wins! 💰

With 11 amazing bingo clubs across the UK under our wing, we’re well on the way to our goal of becoming the biggest independent bingo operators in the UK.

Make sure to stay tuned for more updates, we have big plans for this club!”

Mark Schertle, chief operating officer of Merkur, said:

“We are excited to complete this sale with Real Fun Group.”

“As we continue to evolve and grow in the gaming industry, it’s essential for us to focus on our core strengths. The sale of the MERKUR Bingo club in Lowestoft allows us to sharpen our focus on our core slots and casino businesses while ensuring the future success of our teams and enhanced bingo experience for our customers under the new leadership.”

“Lowestoft is exactly what we’re looking for”

Kevin McGinnigle, founder of Real Fun Group said of the acquisition;

“Following an interesting first year as a newly formed group, we had ambitions to further grow our estate through strategic acquisitions in the years to come. Whilst it might have arrived a little earlier than expected, we believe Lowestoft is exactly what we’re looking for, and we look forward to welcoming the bingo hall into the Real Fun Group. I’d like to thank the MERKUR team for their co-operation during the process; they’ve been swift, transparent and a pleasure to deal with.”

Both companies are positioning the sale and acquisition deal as a step toward enhancing customer experiences whilst strengthening their respective growth strategies within the UK entertainment and igaming industries.
