It has been at least, but more bad bingo news has reached the Bingo Daily newsdesk
After a spate of closures over the last few weeks which has seen Mecca Bingo venues up and down the country given winding up announcements, it is the turn of Mecca Bingo Gloucester to get the chop.
Mecca Bingo, owned by the Rank Group has announced an August closure for the bingo venue, with the date yet to be determined.
So far, disappointed dabbers will see Mecca Bingos in Halifax, Plymouth, Bridgwater, Sittingbourne, and Andover all close their doors for good in August. Mecca Bingo Rochdale also closed permanently at the start of the month too.
The shock closures follow poor financial results from the Rank Group-owned bingo and casino company which saw revenues plummet during the lockdown period.
Now, in its 60th anniversary year, there seems little to cheer as Mecca Bingo venues, at the heart of town and city communities for decades, are under fear of closure.
In the case of Mecca Bingo Gloucester, another beautiful ex-cinema built in the 1930s, the bingo hall, operated by Mecca since 1976, has stood at the very heart of the Gloucester community, physically and spiritually for nearly 50 years.
Closure Announced on Facebook
As per the previous recent Mecca Bingo closures, the announcement was made on the bingo club’s Facebook page. The statement read:
“We’re very sad to confirm that Mecca Gloucester will be closing, and we want to say a huge thank you to every single one of our incredible customers for their loyalty and support for the last 46 years.
“Please bear with us while we all adjust to the news, but feel free to pop in and have a chat. We’ll keep you updated here on what our plans are for the coming weeks and when we have a confirmed closing date in August.”
With yet another popular bingo hall set to close, questions will be asked whether we will see more Mecca Bingo venues close before the year is out.
