2022, the year that Mecca Bingo marked its 60th anniversary, has not been a good one for Mecca Bingo. Dozens of bingo halls closed forever and profits slipping faster than a comedy villain on a banana skin.
Now, with the year almost over there looks to be yet another mecca bingo hall set to close. However, it seems that Mecca may not be quite as upfront about its closure as they possibly could be.
Permission has already been granted by Wolverhampton for plans submitted by Maizelands Limited and Arringford Limited, to bulldoze the Mecca Bingo premises at Spring Vale Retail Park which has been a mainstay of the local community for a quarter of a century.
The plans, which described the Mecca Bingo venue as a ‘former bingo hall’ were agreed and signed off by Wolverhampton Council this month. In the proposal, it was stated that the bulldozing of a much loved bingo hall would be “an opportunity to make better use of an under-performing leisure site”. The plans stated the bingo venue would be replaced by an industrial warehouse.
Are Mecca Bingo Being Honest?
when approached for comment, a spokesperson from the Rank Group owned company said: “We have recently celebrated 25 years of serving the Bilston community. We would like to reassure our staff and customers that the club remains open and we have no current plans to withdraw from the site.”
Mecca Bingo dismissed the plans saying they had no idea that plans were submitted and agreed. However, the ‘no current plans’ seems to us here at BingoDaily, who have reported on countless Mecca Bingo closures, as little more than a technical caveat and more than a little mealy-mouthed, for its impending closure.
The Wolverhampton Bingo community as well as the loyal and dedicated staff of the Mecca Bingo venue, deserve some definite clarification on the future of the bingo hall.
BingoDaily has reached out to Mecca for comment but at time of publishing, have recieved no reply.
