Casinos have been changing in different ways since the Covid-19 pandemic reached the US last year. We’ve been writing about Electronic Table Games and Stadium Gaming installations often for the past year and a half. This isn’t the only change inside casinos.
The US is slowly becoming a cashless society. Most businesses offer some kind of option to buy goods without using paper money or coins. Casinos already started moving in this direction but the pandemic has pushed the transformation into overdrive.
Earlier this year we discussed Las Vegas casinos using cashless technology at blackjack tables.
Cashless options in Las Vegas aren’t limited to gambling. Resorts World Las Vegas (Resorts World) can be entirely cashless if a guest chooses to fund an account.
Frankly, most restaurants and bars can be cashless by using a credit card. The Resorts World option allows guests to leave their credit cards in their wallets and use an app or loyalty card.
Casinos With Cashless Gaming
Las Vegas isn’t the only casino town with cashless gaming. Boyd Gaming launched BoydPay Digital Wallet earlier this year at some of its casinos. This is slowly being adopted at more Boyd properties in Las Vegas and around the country.
The cashless option for Boyd will continue to expand into more casinos next year. In fact, cashless gaming options should be available in many more casinos regardless of the operator.
BoydPay is a cashless option that uses technology from gaming manufacturer Aristocrat and Sightline Payments. The latter recently partnered with gaming manufacturer IGT.
Resorts World is entirely cashless because a number of companies worked together. This has been a rare occurrence but teaming up will increase transactions to enable all of the companies to increase revenue.
Sightline and IGT will be able to offer cashless services similar to Resorts World to other casinos in the US.
Gaming manufacturers like IGT and Scientific Games are aggressively moving forward with cashless gaming options. These companies provide numerous slot machines and electronic table games that are already in casinos. Transitioning to cashless shouldn’t be too difficult for some properties.
Scientific Games Acquires PlayOn
Scientific Games recently acquired PlayOn from ACS, another gaming manufacturer. If the PlayOn name sounds familiar this is the company offering cashless gaming for casinos around the country.
This service from Scientific Games will now be called AToM. The acronym stands for Access To On Demand Money. This is the cashless solution that provides players with the ability to use a debit card at live table games.
Players can access money for chips without having to leave their seats. While the bank won’t charge a fee for this service the casinos might.
AToM is currently available at 20 properties and 650 table games in California, Nevada and New Mexico. This should be available to use in New Jersey soon.
Some of the casinos using AToM include Atlantis Casino in Reno, Palace Station and Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas.
Look for this to be available in more casinos that use Scientific Games technology.
