Arizona’s sports betting market delivered a solid performance in July 2025, posting $463.7 million in total wagers—marking a 13.1% increase compared to July 2024, according to the latest report from the Arizona Department of Gaming.
Although the July handle was down 14.6% from June’s total, this drop was expected due to the seasonal slowdown in major sports activity. Still, the year-over-year increase signals that the state’s wagering market continues to grow at a healthy pace more than a year after its launch.
The overwhelming majority of bets—$462.5 million—were placed online, showing the continued dominance of mobile betting. Retail sportsbooks accounted for just $1.2 million, maintaining their minor share of the total market.
Adjusted Receipts Climb Despite Summer Dip
While the total handle dipped month-over-month, adjusted gross revenue figures continued to show strong year-on-year gains. After deducting $12.7 million in free bets and promotions, sportsbooks reported $40.7 million in adjusted gross event wagering receipts, a 40.3% increase over July 2024.
In total, players received $409.2 million in winnings during the month, leaving $53.4 million in gross receipts before promotional deductions. This revenue translated into a statewide hold rate of 8.8%, up from 6.13% in June and significantly higher than the 8.2% hold rate recorded a year earlier.
Of the total adjusted revenue, $40.6 million came from online sportsbooks, while retail operators contributed just $104,581—once again highlighting the strong consumer preference for mobile wagering platforms.
FanDuel, DraftKings Dominate Arizona Market
Among licensed operators, FanDuel retained its lead in the Arizona sports betting space. The company generated $13.9 million in adjusted revenue from a total handle of $155.4 million, achieving a hold of 8.94%.
DraftKings remained close behind, reporting $13.1 million in adjusted revenue on $126.1 million in bets, giving it a higher hold rate of 10.39% than its main competitor.
BetMGM ranked third with $5.2 million in revenue from $57.8 million in bets, equating to a 9% hold. Following them was Fanatics, which posted $3.2 million in revenue at an identical hold of 8.86%, and Bet365, which generated $2.1 million from a $32.2 million handle with a 6.52% hold.
These figures underscore the high level of competition among major sportsbooks in Arizona, each jockeying for user share and profitability within the mobile-first market.
Arizona Collects $3.9 Million in Sports Betting Taxes
The state collected roughly $3.9 million in privilege fees during July, the vast majority of which came from mobile operators taxed at a 10% rate. Retail sportsbooks, taxed at 8%, contributed slightly over $8,000 to the total.
These revenues contribute to Arizona’s broader fiscal landscape and support public programs, reinforcing the economic value of the regulated market.
Despite the seasonal slowdown, July’s numbers reflect a healthy, maturing industry that continues to attract bettors and generate tax revenue. As major sports leagues resume in the fall, handle and revenue are expected to climb again in the months ahead.
