April-Sports-Betting-Figures-Arizona-Department-of-GamingArizona’s sports betting industry reported a notable uptick in activity this April, with total wagers reaching approximately $746 million—a 13.7% increase over the same period in 2024, according to the Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG). Despite this surge in betting volume, revenue growth remained flat, increasing by only 0.2% year-over-year.

Gross receipts, recorded before deducting promotional bets, stood at $64.8 million. Meanwhile, winnings paid back to players totaled $680.5 million. The state’s earnings through privilege fees came in at roughly $4.3 million for the month.

Although handle volumes were strong, they still fell short of the state’s all-time high of $867.6 million, recorded in November 2024.

Online Bets Dominate, DraftKings and FanDuel Lead

Out of the total wagers placed in April, $742.4 million came through online platforms, while just $4 million was generated at retail sportsbooks. DraftKings once again led the market, collecting $239.5 million in bets—$237.5 million from its mobile app and $2 million via in-person wagers.

FanDuel followed closely behind, bringing in a total of $228.1 million, of which $227.1 million was from digital channels and a little over $900,000 from retail bets. BetMGM placed third among operators with $86.2 million in total handle, nearly all of it from mobile activity.

Other major contributors included Fanatics Sportsbook with $63.3 million in bets, while Bally Interactive experienced significant year-over-year growth, increasing its handle from $703,458 in April 2024 to more than $3.3 million this year—a jump of 373.2%.

Among the lowest-performing operators, Golden Nugget reported only $23,718 in total wagers via its mobile platform, with Plannatech slightly ahead at $250,299.

In terms of revenue, FanDuel led with nearly $15.9 million, while DraftKings reported just under $14 million. Bally Interactive earned $152,897, and Desert Diamond Mobile posted the lowest revenue at $52,285.

State Trends Mirror National Developments

Arizona’s growth in sports betting activity reflects broader trends across several U.S. states, though not all saw similar success. In April, New York recorded a 9.7% rise in wagers year-over-year, totaling $2.2 billion, with revenue reaching $94.4 million. Pennsylvania saw a 10.1% increase in betting volume, hitting $711.6 million, with revenues marginally rising to $45.5 million.

In contrast, North Carolina experienced a downturn. Sports wagering in the state dropped 11.2% compared to April 2024, with total bets amounting to $576.2 million. Even more significantly, revenue plummeted by 55.5% to $46.8 million, compared to $105.2 million a year earlier.

Broader Impact on State Revenues

Beyond sports betting, Arizona’s gambling sector showed additional signs of strength. The ADG recently reported that tribal gaming contributions to the Arizona Benefits Fund for the final quarter of FY2025 totaled $45.3 million—a 4% increase over the previous year.

While April did not break records for total handle in the Grand Canyon State, the continued growth in wagering and the resilience of major operators like DraftKings and FanDuel underscore the state’s position as a key player in the national sports betting landscape.
