iGaming-growth-pushes-Denmark-gambling-revenue-to-DKK683-million-in-MayDenmark’s gambling sector reported significant gains in May 2025, with total market revenue rising to DKK683 million ($107 million), reflecting a 19.6% year-on-year increase. The latest figures from the Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, also showed a 2.7% month-over-month improvement from April, making May the highest-earning month of the year to date.

Online casino activity was the key contributor, generating DKK 389 million in revenue, which marked a substantial 39.9% increase compared to May 2024. This segment alone accounted for over half of the nation’s total gambling revenue for the month.

Slots Dominate Online Casino Segment

Within the online casino category, slot games proved to be the dominant driver of revenue, bringing in DKK323.4 million. That figure represents 83.1% of the total income for this sector. Internet blackjack followed distantly, accounting for 6.4% of revenue. Roulette contributed 5%, while the remainder was made up by other games, including poker and bingo.

Sports Betting Slightly Trails Last Year

Meanwhile, sports betting generated DKK154 million in revenue for the month. While still substantial, this marked a slight decline compared to the same period in 2024. Mobile platforms continued to dominate the sports betting landscape, accounting for 64.3% of total revenue. Desktop wagering made up 22.6%, while retail outlets contributed 13.1%.

Land-Based Gambling Market Shows Positive Signs

Land-based gambling also experienced a rebound in May. Physical slot machines across Denmark accumulated DKK105 million in revenue, an 8.3% improvement compared to the previous year. Most of this came from machines located in gaming halls, which made up 79.7% of the total, while units installed in restaurants contributed 20.3%.

This positive growth contrasts with April’s figures, which had shown a 3.6% year-on-year decline. Additionally, the revenue from land-based slots in May surpassed April’s total of DKK93 million by 12.9%.

Revenue from land-based casinos remained unchanged at DKK32 million, holding steady compared to previous figures. Retail bingo revenue was reported at DKK3 million, though year-on-year data for this segment was not available.

Self-Exclusion Figures Continue to Rise

Spillemyndigheden also updated its data on ROFUS, Denmark’s self-exclusion registry. As of the end of May, 62,284 individuals were enrolled in the program. Of those registered, 78.5% were men and 21.5% women. The majority—63.5%—chose to be permanently excluded from gambling. Another 16.4% opted for a six-month ban, 12.1% for three months, and 8.1% selected a one-month exclusion period.

These latest numbers suggest growing awareness and utilization of responsible gambling tools among Danish players.
