Evolution Expands With Atlantic City Studio Hub

Atlantic City’s online gambling sector is set for further expansion as Evolution prepares to open a large technology and live dealer studio complex inside Showboat Resort Atlantic City. The Malta-based company will occupy 60,000 square feet on the second floor of the property, adding production studios, technical infrastructure and support operations to serve the growing demand for internet-based casino gaming.

The project reflects the continued rise of remote wagering in New Jersey, where players can access table games, slot machines and sports betting platforms through personal devices. Behind each digital game stands a production network of dealers, camera crews, technicians and servers that transmit live footage to players in real time.

New Studio Space to Meet Rising Demand

Jacob Claesson, CEO North America for Evolution, described the company’s role in the live dealer segment. “We build broadcasting studios around the world essentially to serve a video stream where players can be on their device, on their phone, wherever they want to,” he said. “In New Jersey, roughly 20% of online gaming is live dealer today, and it’s growing.

“You can have hundreds or thousands of players playing the same game at the same time,” he said.

Evolution already operates facilities at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, Tropicana Atlantic City and Ocean Casino Resort. Those locations will continue operating, though Claesson acknowledged that some capacity could shift over time.

“Given the challenge of how much we are growing, it’s hard to find a place where we can hold all of these tables in one place,” he said. “That’s why we’ve been kind of forced to be opening up several studios within the city, but it’s all to keep up with that growth.”

Neither Claesson nor Showboat owner Bart Blatstein disclosed the cost of the development or the lease duration. Claesson said Evolution has invested “tens of millions of dollars in Atlantic City.”

Employment and Economic Impact

Blatstein characterized the agreement as a major commercial commitment for the resort. “The largest office use in Atlantic City in many decades,” he said. “A 60,000 square-foot office lease is a great get. This is all toward my goal of making this a year-round facility, for people to work here, live here and play here.”

The new center could employ approximately 1,200 people once operational. Blatstein estimated that figure, and Claesson added, “we could be around that number.” Evolution currently employs 1,000 people in Atlantic City and has begun hiring for roles tied to the new site.

Staff will include live dealers along with technicians, camera operators, lighting and audio specialists, carpenters and human resources personnel. The facility will house the infrastructure required to broadcast live casino games to online players across the state.

Recent state data shows that January marked the third consecutive month in which online gambling revenue surpassed earnings from in-person play at Atlantic City’s nine casinos. Claesson noted the shift in consumer habits. “Live dealer has become a must these days, and we’re kind of fortunate for the position we’re in that we work with all the licensed operators in New Jersey,” he said. “Online gaming is growing and we’re happy to play our part in that.”

He added, “It’s a nice kind of win-win.”

Claesson expects the new Showboat facility to receive approval from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and begin operations during the second or third quarter of the year.
