Nevada Gaming Control Board has recommended that Gil Rotem, CEO of IGT PlayDigital, be granted a license when he appears later this month before the Gaming Commission. If approved, this will mark Rotem’s first licensure in the state, enabling him to oversee IGT’s North American digital operations.
Rotem’s licensing follows a major corporate consolidation in the gaming sector. Funds managed by Apollo Global Management, owners of the Venetian, Palazzo, and Venetian Expo, completed a US$6.3 billion all-cash transaction acquiring both Everi’s and IGT’s gaming and digital businesses. The combined enterprise, operating under the IGT brand, is headquartered in Las Vegas.
IGT offers a broad spectrum of gaming products, from lotteries and gaming machines to sports betting and digital platforms, while Everi develops content, machines, and systems for land-based casinos, iGaming, and bingo operators. The merger strengthens IGT’s presence in the North American market and accelerates digital product deployment.
Rotem’s Career Path and IGT Leadership
Rotem, who joined IGT in November 2021, was named CEO of PlayDigital in July 2025 after serving as President since April 2024. He brings over two decades of international gaming experience, beginning in 2002 with 888, where he managed IT and databases, and spending ten years at Bet365 in London.
“I started as a consultant for them, at the 2020, and I joined, on November, 2021,” Rotem explained during his video appearance before the Gaming Board. Initially tasked with reviewing IGT’s digital business, he submitted a strategic report aimed at making the company No. 1 in North America. Rotem said he was then asked to implement his recommendations. “I made the biggest consultant’s mistake to recommend what to do (and try and make it happen),” he said. “I joined IGT and three years later we became No. 1 in North America.”
In his current role, Rotem oversees digital commercial, sports operations, product roadmaps, and organizational integration following the merger. He acknowledged that the company structure remains fluid, with ongoing discussions and adjustments across combined operations.
“It looks like a fluid situation, but you have a strong background in this space,” said Board Chairman Mike Dreitzer. “It seems like you’re the right person to lead this team through all these challenges and changes.”
Board members reviewed Rotem’s management cadence and reporting lines and were satisfied with the organizational realignment following the Apollo-led acquisition. Member Sandahl moved to recommend approval of his licensure, and the motion passed by voice vote.
Implications for North American Digital Gaming
Licensure in Nevada will allow Rotem to officially lead the rollout of IGT’s digital products in North America, including iGaming and sports betting offerings. Rotem highlighted the operational differences between markets: in the U.S., IGT provides kiosks, staff, and trading support for sports betting, whereas in Europe, digital operations are primarily online with no need for physical kiosks.
The approval positions IGT PlayDigital to capitalize on its strengthened market position after the merger, bringing integrated digital and land-based offerings to North American operators under Rotem’s leadership.
