June 2025 Casino Revenue Sees Slight Dip in Maryland

Maryland-casino-revenue-down-1.4_-in-June,-ending-fiscal-year-with-mixed-monthly-resultsMaryland’s casino market experienced a modest setback in June 2025, as combined revenue from its six licensed casinos fell to just over $160.6 million. This figure marks a 1.4% year-on-year decline, representing a $2.25 million drop compared to June 2024.

The downturn follows a stronger performance in May, when monthly gaming revenue climbed by 1.9% to reach $176.4 million. Despite the June slide, the full fiscal year ended on a positive note. Maryland Lottery and Gaming confirmed that fiscal year 2025 concluded on June 30, with cumulative casino revenue topping $1.8 billion—a 0.5% gain over the previous year.

State Contributions and Education Fund See Decline

Casino contributions to state programs for the month totaled $68.54 million, also down from last June by approximately $1.3 million, or 1.9%. Among this total, $49.42 million was directed to the Education Trust Fund, which saw a decline of $954,000 from the same period in 2024.

Despite the monthly fluctuation, these revenues continue to provide vital support for a range of state initiatives. In addition to education, gaming taxes help fund Maryland’s horse racing sector, support programs for small, minority-, and women-owned businesses, and contribute to local jurisdictions hosting casino operations.

Performance Across Maryland’s Casino Properties

The state’s two most prominent gaming venues both reported year-over-year revenue declines. MGM National Harbor generated $67.17 million in June, falling 1.4% from its previous-year total. Live! Casino & Hotel also saw revenue slide 2.4%, totaling just under $59 million for the month.

In contrast, Ocean Downs Casino delivered a stronger showing, with a 4.3% boost to $8.48 million. Horseshoe Casino Baltimore posted a more modest 0.8% increase to $14.22 million. Rocky Gap Casino Resort held steady with a marginal increase of 0.04%, earning $4.59 million in June 2025.

Meanwhile, Hollywood Casino Perryville recorded a downturn, with monthly revenue dropping 3.7% to $7.24 million compared to June 2024.

End of Fiscal Year Highlights and Outlook

June capped off Maryland Lottery and Gaming’s 2025 fiscal calendar. The agency noted that stronger months earlier in the year helped offset the latest dip. For instance, May’s impressive showing included MGM National Harbor generating $75.4 million—a 4.3% increase over May 2024. Hollywood Casino and Ocean Downs also enjoyed growth during that month, with gains of 5% and 6.4%, respectively.

However, not all properties followed that upward trajectory. Both Live! Casino and Rocky Gap posted revenue losses in May, signaling the inconsistent momentum that defined the fiscal year’s end.

As fiscal year 2026 begins, regulators and industry observers will be closely watching how broader economic factors and seasonal trends affect casino revenues in the months ahead.

Maryland’s gaming sector remains under the purview of Maryland Lottery and Gaming, which continues to oversee operational and regulatory compliance for all six licensed facilities. These properties include MGM National Harbor (Prince George’s County), Live! Casino & Hotel (Anne Arundel County), Horseshoe Casino Baltimore (Baltimore City), Ocean Downs Casino (Worcester County), Hollywood Casino Perryville (Cecil County), and Rocky Gap Casino Resort (Allegany County).

Monthly revenue figures and detailed reports are regularly published by the agency on its official website to ensure public transparency. Maryland Lottery and Gaming also promotes responsible gambling, offering no-cost resources for residents through 1-800-GAMBLER and mdgamblinghelp.org.
