Missouri’s Sports Betting Market Expected to Reach $3.88B in First Year

By | November 12, 2025

Missouri’s soon-to-launch sports betting industry is projected to see a robust first year, with BetMissouri.com estimating a total handle of $3.88 billion during its initial 12 months of operation. The forecast, released by BetMissouri.com analyst Christopher Boan, outlines detailed projections across key early periods: approximately $65.7 million in wagers in the first week (December 1–7, 2025), $262.6 million by the end of the first month, and nearly $3.88 billion between December 1, 2025, and November 30, 2026.

The analysis combines demographic insights, sports fan engagement, and data from comparable state launches to model Missouri’s potential market performance. Despite its delayed rollout—missing most of the 2025 NFL regular season—experts anticipate a strong response from local bettors driven by enthusiasm for the Kansas City Chiefs dand St. Louis Blues, both of which have major events scheduled around the state’s betting debut.

Fan Enthusiasm and Local Events to Drive Early Growth

Boan said that if Missouri hits its projected four-month handle of $1.05 billion, it would place third among five benchmark states analyzed, trailing only Massachusetts and Maryland but ahead of Colorado, Tennessee, and Indiana.

“If Missouri reaches our four-month projection of $1.05 billion, it would rank third among the five benchmark states we analyzed, trailing only Massachusetts and Maryland but surpassing Colorado, Tennessee and Indiana,” said Christopher Boan, sports betting analyst at BetMissouri.com. “That’s a promising signal for how quickly Missourians could embrace regulated wagering.”

While the timing of the launch may prevent the state from fully capitalizing on the NFL season, local events are expected to help boost engagement. Early December matchups for the St. Louis Blues and the Kansas City Chiefs’ home game on December 7 are expected to generate high betting activity.

Tax Revenue to Fund Education and Responsible Gambling

Under Missouri’s new constitutional framework, legalized sports betting will also deliver meaningful public benefits. The state’s 10% tax rate on sports betting revenue will funnel proceeds toward K–12 and higher education programs, with a minimum of $5 million per year earmarked for a dedicated problem gambling fund.

“Should these projections hold,” Boan added, “sports betting could represent not only a new entertainment avenue for fans but also a meaningful, sustainable revenue stream for the state’s education system.”

Major Operators Prepare for Market Entry

In preparation for the December 2025 launch, the Missouri Gaming Commission has already begun issuing licenses to leading sportsbook operators. On August 15, DraftKings and Circa Sports were granted direct licenses to operate without requiring partnerships with casinos or professional teams.

Other operators have taken a different route, forming strategic alliances to secure entry into the state’s market. FanDuel has partnered with St. Louis City FC, while Fanatics Sportsbook has joined forces with Boyd Gaming, further diversifying the landscape of betting options available to Missourians.

As Missouri approaches its long-awaited launch date, analysts expect a combination of strong local engagement, competitive operator activity, and steady tax contributions to establish one of the Midwest’s most dynamic regulated betting markets.
