Nevada’s casinos posted another strong month in August 2025, with statewide gaming revenue rising 5.5% year-over-year to $1.23 billion, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB). The growth comes even as tourism indicators, including hotel occupancy, visitor volume, and airport traffic, remain below last year’s levels, highlighting the continued resilience of the state’s gambling sector.
Baccarat and Mobile Betting Drive Growth
While slot machine revenue showed mixed results, table games and card play powered the overall gains. Table games posted $411.8 million, up 12.6%, led by baccarat, which surged 52.6% to $116.5 million thanks to high-roller activity on the Strip. Meanwhile, sports wagering continued its strong trajectory, rising 68.1% to $42 million, with mobile betting nearly doubling to $29.4 million. Football action accounted for a significant portion, with $16.3 million in bets, up 85.9%, fueled by the start of the NFL and college football seasons.
Slot revenue growth was uneven. Multi-denomination machines increased 14.2% to $508.5 million, while penny slots experienced a 31.2% decline, reflecting shifting player preferences toward higher-stakes games. Overall, statewide slot win rose 2.2% on a 6.3% win percentage.
Southern Nevada Performance
Clark County, which accounts for the bulk of Nevada’s gaming revenue, saw $1.03 billion, up 5.3%. The Las Vegas Strip contributed $652.1 million, a 2% increase, with baccarat nearly doubling to $115.6 million, offsetting softness in lower-denomination slot categories. Downtown Las Vegas performed strongly, with revenue rising 8.3% to $63.2 million, while North Las Vegas increased 7.8% to $24.7 million. The Boulder Strip rose slightly 1.1%, and Laughlin’s revenue decreased 7.1%, highlighting the uneven nature of growth across Southern Nevada submarkets.
August marked the 54th consecutive month that statewide gaming revenue exceeded $1 billion. While most Southern Nevada submarkets posted gains, the only notable declines were in certain outlying Clark County areas, which fell 0.9% to $142.4 million, and the Boulder Strip’s minimal dip.
Regional Trends Beyond Clark County
Other parts of Nevada showed mixed results. Washoe County, including Reno, reported $102.8 million, up 7.4%, with Reno alone contributing $76.1 million, a 9.9% rise. Sparks increased 3.2% to $15.7 million, while North Lake Tahoe fell 15% to $3.1 million. South Lake Tahoe rebounded strongly, surging 21.5% to $37.7 million, and Carson Valley grew 8.9% to $12.4 million. Mesquite posted a 9.9% increase to $15.1 million, while Elko County was the only region to see a small decline, 0.8% to $32.4 million.
Broader Context
Despite August’s gains, Nevada gaming continues to navigate a challenging landscape. Visitor softness, rising resort fees, and weaker international tourism have tempered overall growth. Nevertheless, high-stakes baccarat and the continued expansion of mobile sports wagering have proven effective counterweights, underscoring the state’s adaptability amid changing player trends.
