Scientific Games has completed a significant upgrade of the North Dakota Lottery’s system infrastructure, implementing its most sophisticated central gaming system alongside an advanced iLottery solution. This modernization aims to enhance both retail and digital sales channels, ultimately supporting funding for education, transportation, natural resources, and other state programs.
Thomas Lawler, Director of the North Dakota Lottery, highlighted the importance of this update, stating, “We are committed to making the North Dakota Lottery relevant for generations to come, and by doing so, we achieve our mission to benefit programs meant to improve the quality of life in our state. This omnichannel technology upgrade with our longtime partner Scientific Games is an important step in achieving that goal, so we can continue to bring modern, engaging experiences to our players and provide support to retailers that sell our games.”
Omnichannel Solutions Drive Player Engagement
The Lottery’s omnichannel capabilities are powered through Scientific Games’ Momentum integrated ecosystem, which combines the AEGIS central gaming system with SG PAM, the lottery industry’s leading player account management and CRM platform. This system incorporates an integrated loyalty program, a robust bonusing engine, and achievement-based rewards, offering players a more engaging experience through web and mobile platforms.
The North Dakota Lottery provides five multi-state games — Powerball, Mega Millions, Lucky for Life, Lotto America, and 2by2 — via a network of retail outlets across the state. Players can also interact digitally through the Lottery’s Players Club, which enables ticket purchases online, point accrual from ticket entries, redemption for drawings, and access to a variety of rewards from the Players Club store.
Michael Cardell, Senior VP of Americas Systems at Scientific Games, praised the Lottery’s approach: “We commend the North Dakota Lottery on its forward-thinking, omnichannel vision and decision to power that strategy with Scientific Games’ advanced technology. We look forward to building on our long-standing partnership to drive continuous innovation and success for the citizens of North Dakota.”
Retailers and Data Insights Benefit
Retailers participating in the North Dakota Lottery gain from PlayCentral Flex self-service terminals and the gem|Suite retail management system. The full Momentum ecosystem is further supported by Scientific Games’ iNFUSEbusiness intelligence solution, which aggregates data across all channels to optimize performance and deepen player engagement.
The system transition was carefully coordinated between Scientific Games, the Lottery, and retail partners to ensure a seamless launch. This marks the third time the North Dakota Lottery has selected Scientific Games for its systems technology since issuing its first Powerball ticket in 2004.
With over 50 systems implementations and conversions completed since 2016 — including 12 from legacy providers — Scientific Games maintains its leadership in lottery technology. Operating in 50 countries and serving 150 lotteries worldwide, the company is recognized as the largest lottery games provider globally, a fast-growing systems technology leader, and a key innovator in digital lottery solutions.
