Ontario’s regulated iGaming sector continues to surge, with players in the province wagering a record CA$8.55 billion (US$6.11 billion) in September — the highest monthly total since the market’s launch. According to iGaming Ontario’s latest figures, September’s total surpassed August’s previous record by 5%, marking the second straight month of record-breaking performance and a 30.7% increase compared to September 2024.
Casino Gaming Dominates Record Month
The bulk of September’s wagers came from online casino play, which accounted for CA$7.34 billion of the total handle. Sports betting followed at CA$1.06 billion, while peer-to-peer poker brought in CA$144 million.
Despite record betting volumes, non-adjusted gross revenue reached CA$329 million—slightly down from August’s CA$334.8 million, a 1.8% dip month-over-month. Still, the figure stood 18.8% higher than the same period last year, continuing a six-month streak of revenues above CA$300 million.
Casino gaming once again generated the majority of returns, contributing CA$277.8 million, or 84.4% of total monthly revenue. Sports betting added CA$46.5 million, while poker brought in CA$5.1 million.
Record Number of Active Players
September also saw an unprecedented rise in player engagement. The province reported 1.2 million active player accounts—the highest ever recorded in Ontario’s online gambling market. However, average revenue per account fell to CA$282, down from CA$330 in August and CA$320 in September 2024. This marked the lowest average monthly total since February 2025, reflecting a broader trend of rising participation but smaller individual spend.
Ontario’s robust iGaming ecosystem includes a wide array of major operators such as FanDuel, BetMGM and BetRivers. These established brands have helped drive growth and player trust within one of North America’s most competitive regulated online gambling environments.
August’s Record Set the Stage
The latest surge builds on a summer of strong performance for Ontario’s iGaming market. In August, total wagers reached CA$8.14 billion — then the highest ever recorded and a 34.6% increase from August 2024. It was only the second time Ontario surpassed the CA$8 billion threshold, following a similar milestone in May.
Operator revenue in August climbed to CA$334.8 million, making it the second-best month since online gambling regulation began in April 2022. The all-time high remains May 2025, when the market hit CA$338 million in revenue. Compared with August 2024, earnings jumped more than 40%, underscoring the continued momentum of Ontario’s iGaming industry.
Casino Sector Continues to Lead
Ontario’s June 2025 results also reflected the casino vertical’s consistent dominance. The market generated CA$307 million in total revenue that month, up 27.9% from June 2024. Although that figure fell 9.2% short of May’s record-setting CA$338 million, it reinforced the online casino segment’s leading role.
Of June’s total, CA$243 million came from online casino gaming—representing a 41% year-on-year increase and the majority share of provincial iGaming earnings.
With back-to-back record months and a steadily expanding player base, Ontario’s iGaming market shows no sign of slowing, positioning itself as a benchmark for regulated online gambling across North America.
