Pennsylvania’s gaming industry posted another milestone in August, bringing in $582.3 million in revenue across all forms of gambling and fantasy contests. The figure marks a 14.15% increase year-over-year and is the second-largest monthly total ever recorded in the state, trailing only May 2025’s $601.8 million.

The latest data from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) underscores the growing role of online gaming, which continues to outpace other sectors in growth.

Internet Gaming Fuels Revenue Boom

Online casino-style gaming, or iGaming, accounted for $231.2 million of the total revenue, up 25.86% from August 2024. The digital sector was led by Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course, which earned $85.5 million, an 18.5% year-over-year rise. Valley Forge Casino Resort saw its iGaming revenue climb 47.1% to $67.6 million, while Rivers Casino Philadelphia posted $36.6 million, up 18.5%.

Online slots alone generated $179.3 million, and iGaming table games added another $49.4 million. Internet poker rounded out the category with $2.5 million.

Retail Slots and Table Games Hold Steady

Revenue from brick-and-mortar slot machines increased by 2.6%, totaling $216.6 million, despite a slight decrease in the number of machines statewide—from 24,595 in August 2024 to 24,332 this year.

Parx Casino maintained its dominance in this category with $33.4 million, up 2.56%. Rivers Casino Pittsburgh followed with $22.3 million, and Wind Creek Bethlehem contributed $24.9 million, though that was a slight drop of 1.3%.

Table games in retail settings saw minimal growth, bringing in $81.1 million, just 0.12% more than the same month last year. Wind Creek Bethlehem led table game revenue with $22.95 million, followed by Parx Casino at $18.16 million.

Sports Betting Revenue Skyrockets

Sports wagering was another bright spot, with total handle hitting $515.4 million, up 6.21% year-over-year. Taxable revenue soared 63.82%, climbing from $30 million in August 2024 to $49.2 million in August 2025.

Valley Forge Casino Resort was again a top performer, generating $18.8 million in revenue from a handle of $171.7 million. Hollywood Casino at the Meadows followed with $12.3 million, and Hollywood Casino York contributed $3.65 million.

Video gaming terminals (VGTs), which operate in truck stops, pulled in $3.58 million, down 2.44% from the prior year. Meanwhile, fantasy sports contests generated $664,758, showing a modest 2.58% increase.

Leading Casinos by Total Revenue

Among all operators, Hollywood Casino at Penn National topped the chart with $101.3 million, up 15.5% from August 2024. Valley Forge Casino Resort came in close behind with $98.7 million, a striking 39.3% increase. Parx Casino secured third place with $58.2 million, up 8.47%.

Record-Setting Year Continues

August’s numbers reaffirm a strong trend for Pennsylvania’s gaming sector, which is on pace to surpass previous annual records. With both digital and retail segments contributing robustly, the industry remains a vital revenue source for the state.

Total tax revenue across all forms of gaming and fantasy contests in August came to $238.5 million.
