Spain’s online gambling sector maintained significant momentum in the third quarter of 2025, driven primarily by online casino growth. Gross gaming revenue (GGR) for the quarter reached €405.36 million, marking a 16.49% increase compared to the same period in 2024, though slightly down 1.35% from the previous quarter. Player activity, marketing expenditure, and segment performance reflect both growth opportunities and areas of decline across the sector.
Casino Dominates the Market
Casino gaming contributed €230.98 million to the GGR, representing 56.98% of total revenue and a year-on-year increase of 22.93%. This growth was largely fueled by slot machines, which rose 27.78% compared to Q3 2024. Quarter-on-quarter, slot machines increased 8.54%, while live roulette grew by 4.20%. Traditional roulette and blackjack, however, recorded declines of 8.00% and 3.22%, respectively.
Bingo accounted for just €3.18 million of GGR (0.78%), experiencing a 5.92% decline from the previous quarter and a 13.48% drop compared to Q3 2024.
Mixed Performance in Betting
The betting segment generated €149.50 million in GGR (36.88% of total), with a quarterly decline of 13.02% but a 10.00% increase from the same period last year. Within this segment, conventional fixed-odds sports betting fell sharply by 42.98%, while live betting surged 32.82%. Other fixed-odds products rose 23.85%, and fixed-odds horse racing betting decreased by 9.07%.
Poker, representing 5.36% of the market, grew 13.59% quarter-on-quarter and 5.80% year-on-year. Cash poker increased by 8.82%, while tournament poker rose 15.98% compared to the previous quarter. Year-on-year growth rates were 12.91% for cash games and 2.76% for tournaments.
Player Activity and Accounts
The average monthly number of active gaming accounts reached 1,657,963, showing a 14.32% increase year-on-year but a 2.73% decline from Q2 2025. New accounts averaged 153,286 per month, nearly flat year-on-year (0.07% growth) but down 8.92% compared to the previous quarter. Of the 77 licensed operators, 64 held at least one active license during the quarter, including 44 in betting, 4 in bingo, 52 in casino, 2 in contests, and 9 in poker.
Marketing Investment
Marketing spending totaled €154.84 million, up 17.89% year-on-year but down 6.00% from the previous quarter. Promotions accounted for €82.03 million, with €28.57 million released as bonus funds and €53.46 million not tied to prizes. Affiliate marketing rose to €15.86 million, advertising to €54.65 million, while sponsorship decreased to €2.30 million. Year-on-year increases were notable in sponsorship (+82.88%), promotions (+23.47%), and affiliate marketing (+19.77%).
The data highlights the ongoing strength of online casinos in Spain, driving much of the sector’s expansion. Betting and bingo showed mixed results, while poker continues a steady climb. Overall, Spain’s online gaming market demonstrates a combination of strong year-on-year growth and modest quarterly fluctuations, reflecting dynamic player preferences and strategic marketing investments.
