1/ST Racing will extend the automatic qualifier, entry and travel incentives for the inaugural running of the $1 million California Crown at Santa Anita Park to the connections of City of Troy, who served up an ultra-game win in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown last Saturday.
Through a partnership between 1/ST and the UK Jockey Club, with a win in the Coral-Eclipse, City of Troy automatically qualified for the $750,00 California Crown John Henry Turf on Sept. 28. However, City of Troy’s ownership ground, the international juggernaut Coolmore, and trainer Aidan O’Brien, are looking to make history with a win in the 1 ¼ mile Breeders’ Cup Classic on dirt this November. The $1 million California Crown is a “Win & You’re In” qualifier for the Breeders’ Cup Classic at 1 1/8-miles on the main track.
“Aidan O’Brien has had incredible success at Santa Anita Park, with nearly half of his Breeders’ Cup wins coming here,” said Nate Newby, Santa Anita’s SVP & General Manager.
“City of Troy’s sire, Justify, loved this track and it would be fitting to see his best son run five weeks before the Breeders’ Cup Classic just down the road at Del Mar.”
This weekend’s July Cup at Newmarket will also serve as an automatic qualifier with complimentary entry and travel incentives for the California Crown Eddie D. Turf Sprint. The partnership with UK Jockey Club is one of several reciprocal qualifying agreements in place between 1/ST Racing and prestigious racing organizations throughout the world.
