AB Trav och Galopp (ATG), the operating company of Swedish licensed horse racing and trotting venues, has confirmed that it will no longer accept customer registrations from foreign/non-nationals.
Following 2019’s implementation of new rules applied by Swedish gambling’s new regulatory regime, ATG venues have been forced to register all players wagering at its venues.
In the wake of an internal review, ATG management has chosen to no longer accept foreign player registrations citing that legal requirements had led to ‘cumbersome outcomes’ as venue teams were required to undertake significant administrative tasks registering foreign players and allocating their winnings.
As a result, customers who are not registered on Sweden’s national ID registry systems will no longer be allowed to wager on ATG tracks or games.
“From 1 July, it is no longer possible for foreign visitors to Sweden to open a temporary account with ATG to play in the terminal on the track and in the store,” ATG’s statement read.
“Customers without the opportunity to obtain an ATG account are referred from 1 July to their respective home countries’ gaming companies and the rules that apply to them. Many foreign visitors today can play via a gaming company in their home country when they are in Sweden. This is a decision made by ATG after an overall assessment.”
ATG stated that its decision had been taken to coincide with its group-wide ‘digital makeover project’, which will see all existing wagering terminals phased out and replaced with ID-required machines.
Moving forward, ATG declared that only syndicated partners could accept foreign players wagering on its Swedish racing markets and pools.
This summer, ATG unveiled its new V64 Xpress competition format designed to revive greater public engagement with the winter schedule of Swedish trotting fixtures.
