Sisal SPA has published its 12th Sustainability Report outlining its short, medium and long-term commitments to achieving its 2030 CSR objectives.

The operator of Italy’s SuperEnalotto lottery aims to be global gaming’s first ‘zero problematic players, zero gender pay gap and zero CO2 emissions’ company by 2030.

Spearheading its 2030 vision, Sisal has established four working pillars focused on its workforce equality, consumer protections, community responsibilities and environmental duties.

Workforce directives saw Sisal provide more than 20,000 hours of training to its employees, with more than 1,200 staff actively involved in the development of its responsible gambling tools and programmes.

Sisal noted significant progress on its responsible gambling target of zero problematic players, for which the company reduced deposit limits and carried out a survey of more than 15,000 online customers ‘to analyse gambling behaviour and identify at-risk players’.

Providing a breakdown of its workforce, Sisal currently employs 2,170 women (39% of the workforce) in which the company maintains a pay disparity of 12.9%.

To ensure progress on its zero gender pay gap commitment, Sisal has formed a working partnership with the Winning Women Institute –  using the organisation’s Inclusion Impact Index as an independent tool to measure the effectiveness of a company’s diversity and inclusion policies.

An increased focus on its environmental footprint has seen Sisal make a reduction of almost 7 tonnes of CO2 across its business, preserved more than 46,000 litres of water, and outlined its commitment to digital sustainability as part of the initial steps in its long-term strategy.

New environmental directives will see Sisal target a 10% reduction in paper use, 30% reduction of net CO2 emissions and the achievement of 50% energy use from renewable sources as the Sisal aims to be amongst the first EU-compliant energy-efficient mass-market businesses.

Progress on C02 reduction and environmental protections saw Sisal awarded a Silver medal of Ecovadis – one of the highest international ratings for recognising sustainability.

Concluding its report, Sisal outlined that its CSR commitments on sustainability, equality and CO2 reduction will lead its representation as a European Lotteries and World Lottery Association (WLA) member.
