The Majestic Bingo in Worcester has honoured a man who suffered a heart attack at their club and later died in hospital. The bingo club unveiled a plaque and a defibrillator in honour of David Timbrell, who died in hospital four days after suffering a heart attack at Majestic Bingo Worcester on October 8th last year.
Mr. Timbrell was a regular at the Majestic Bingo in Worcester, often playing twice a week. When the heart attack happened at the popular bingo club, Adam Charlesworth, the general manager of Majestic Bingo, performed CPR on Mr. Timbrell and stayed with him until the arrival of the paramedics.
Mr. Charlesworth said of the sad incident:
“It was really crazy and terribly sad that David passed away. On the day, I went out to the smoking area where he explained he was struggling to catch his breath.
“I called an ambulance and was told to call back if the pains got worse and later on he collapsed to the floor.
“I performed CPR until the ambulance turned up but sadly he passed away four days later.”
Rallying Around
Bekky Sheppard, duty manager of Majestic Bingo, spoke of the way the community rallied around, led by staff member June Broadway. She said:
“After what happened, it triggered an idea from customers and staff about buying a defibrillator.
“We decided to raise money to purchase one, with a small donation from Betfred, D&S contractors and the majority of our customers and staff here at Majestic Bingo.
“We raised the money within two weeks to buy a defibrillator and a case and we are working with Hereford and Worcester First Responders whom we purchased the defibrillator from and they will also be giving staff training on how to use it.
“Any company in the area will have access to the defibrillator if needed.
“We are very grateful to each and every person who donated prizes and money towards helping us buy the defibrillator.”
In total, £1,250 was raised and was used to purchase the defibrillator and its case. The plaque sits above the defibrillator and was paid for by Mark Jepp, the owner of Majestic Bingo. Meanwhile, the defibrillator was fitted for free by local electricians Ryan Anderson and Matthew Jones from Frontline Electrical,
