A bingo caller from Huyton in Liverpool is on a fundraising mission.
Mattie Richardson who calls the numbers at Mecca Bingo Knotty Ash is set to travel the length and breadth of the country in aid of charity in just 15 days. The kicker? he will be doing it all just by public transport.
The 30-year-old was inspired by Jules Verne’s novel Around the World in Eighty Days, which was bought for him by his father. Mattie will be raising money for the Macmillan Cancer Research Charity in memory of his Nan and Grandad.
The journey, which begins in Mattie’s native Liverpool, starts Tuesday 28th February, and takes is Carlisle, Oban, Thurso, Edinburgh, Grimsby, Kings Lynn, Great Yarmouth, Clacton, Margate, Exmouth, Hayle, Barnstaple, Swansea, Bangor and back home to Liverpool in just 15 days.
Mattie said of his impending travels:
“I’m going to be travelling by all forms of transport. The aim is to be back in Liverpool within 15 days. I’ve wanted to do this for quite some time and it all started in 2020. I’m doing this in memory of my nan and grandad.
“My nan died back in 2007 of cancer and three years ago my grandad had a fall at home. He was by himself and he cut his arm, because he was on blood thinners he bled out.
“I remember when my nan died, I was only in high school. I was devastated. They were amazing people. They always took me and my sisters out. We would visit Southport and go round to their house every week.”
When asked what his colleagues at Mecca Bingo Knotty Ash thought of his upcoming adventures, he said:
“Their support has been amazing. It’s been great.
“I’ve had so much support from my managers and colleagues. You have a laugh working there. We’re like a big happy family.”
