A popular bingo venue in Southampton city centre has suffered a shock closure after the landlord took possession of the building, citing an alleged breach of its lease agreement over unpaid rent.
Legal notices displayed at the Leo Leisure Bingo Hall on Southampton High Street confirm that the lease has been forfeited, ending the operator’s occupation of the site.
Landlord Takes Back Control of Property
According to a legal notice dated 7 July 2026, the landlord, Questmap Limited, has exercised its right to forfeit the lease held by Brown Leisure Limited.
The notice states that the company had breached the terms of its lease by allegedly failing to pay rent, prompting the landlord to “peaceably re-enter the property and thereby terminate the lease.”
Commercial lease forfeiture allows landlords to regain possession of premises without court proceedings in certain circumstances, provided the legal requirements are met.
The notice also warns that anyone entering the property without the landlord’s written consent could be considered trespassing.
Brown Leisure Limited has been instructed to contact the landlord’s solicitors regarding the removal of any remaining equipment or belongings from inside the building.
Neither the landlord nor Brown Leisure Limited has publicly commented on the circumstances surrounding the alleged rent arrears.
Bingo Daily contacted Leo Leisure’s headquarters in the Isle of Wight, which confirmed that the bingo hall in Southampton is indeed closed but would not comment further on the closure or whether it will reopen.
A Familiar Name on Southampton’s High Street and the South Coast
The popular bingo venue operated under the Leo Leisure Bingo brand, which has been associated with seaside and southern England bingo clubs for decades. The Southampton venue was opened with great fanfare by Gareth Gates.
Situated on Southampton High Street, the club occupied a prominent city centre location and attracted regular players from across a large local catchment area.
The lease held by Brown Leisure Limited had been in place since 28 June 2022, when the Leo Leisure Southampton bingo venue opened.
What Happens Next to Leo Leisure Southampton?
At this stage, it remains unclear whether the Southampton property will continue to operate as a bingo venue.
With the lease now supposedly terminated, any future use of the premises will depend on the landlord’s plans for the High Street site.
As more information becomes available from either Brown Leisure Limited, Leo Leisure, or Questmap Limited, BingoDaily will provide further updates.
