Evolution Extends Alberta Market Presence After Launch

By | July 16, 2026

Evolution has widened the availability of its online gaming portfolio in Alberta after the province introduced a regulated commercial iGaming market that allows licensed private operators to compete alongside the government-run Play Alberta platform.

The supplier had provided Live Casino games and online slots exclusively through Play Alberta since 2021. With Alberta’s transition to a multi-operator model, Evolution has signed agreements with licensed commercial operators, enabling them to offer its Live Casino titles, game shows, First Person games and online slots to players across the province.

“Evolution has been proud to serve players in Alberta since 2021 through PlayAlberta. The opening of the market to commercial operators represents an exciting next step, and we are pleased to expand our presence as more operators enter the province,” said Jacob Claesson, Chief Executive Officer Evolution North America.

He added: “A well-regulated, competitive market benefits players by increasing choice and access to high-quality entertainment. We look forward to supporting our operator partners and continuing to bring Evolution’s world-class games to players across Alberta.”

The company said the move aligns with its approach of entering regulated jurisdictions as they open while continuing to expand its presence in North America.

Alberta Opens Market to Private Operators

The commercial market went live on July 13, making Alberta the second province in Canada, after Ontario, to introduce a competitive regulated online gaming model. Residents can now access 22 approved online gambling websites in addition to Play Alberta, while more than 50 online casino and sportsbook brands have already received approval to operate.

Several suppliers launched alongside the new framework, including Evolution, IGT PlayDigital, Aristocrat Interactive, Pragmatic Play, Light & Wonder and Inspired Entertainment. Some operators also introduced multiple products under different brands.

Regulatory Structure Emphasizes Responsible Gaming

Alberta iGaming Corporation conducts and manages the commercial market, while Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis regulates participating businesses.

“Alberta is taking an important step forward with the launch of a regulated iGaming market,” said Dale Nally, Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction. “Our focus has been clear from the start: to protect Albertans, especially young people, and ensure that those who choose online gaming can do so in a responsible environment.”

Operators must verify player ages, provide tools that allow customers to set financial and time limits, offer self-exclusion options and intervene when systems detect indicators of high-risk gambling behaviour. Provincial rules also prohibit advertising aimed at minors or vulnerable people.

“Alberta has built a thoughtful and collaborative iGaming framework that reflects the highest standards of player protection and responsible gaming, said Alberta iGaming Corporation CEO Dan Keene. “Alberta’s market sets clear expectations for operators and creates a responsible, competitive environment for the industry. The Alberta iGaming Corporation is well prepared to conduct and manage the regulated market on behalf of the province.”
