Nevada sportsbooks reversed a sluggish start to 2026 with a strong June, benefiting from the FIFA World Cup, the Stanley Cup Final featuring the Vegas Golden Knights and the NBA Finals.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board reported $578.7 million in statewide sports wagers for June, up 16.5% from the same month in 2025. Sportsbooks generated $50.5 million in revenue, a 20% year-over-year increase, while the statewide hold improved to 8.72% from 8.47% a year earlier. The state’s 6.75% tax on sportsbook revenue produced $3.41 million in June.
Mobile betting generated $416 million in wagers, up 15.6% from last year and accounting for 71.9% of total betting activity.
Championship Events Lift June Performance
June followed several months in which Nevada sportsbooks had fallen nearly $250 million behind the previous year’s wagering pace through May. Industry observers had suggested prediction markets contributed to the slower handle.
Joe Asher, CEO of Boomer’s Sportsbook, described June as “a trifecta” because several major sporting events overlapped, including the World Cup’s first appearance in the US since 1994.
“It was a good month for sure,” Asher said. “The World Cup proved to be very popular. It just grew and grew. So many good games generated a lot of enthusiasm. The run that Mexico made, coupled with the US, really drove a lot of interest in Las Vegas, in particular. The amount of betting on Mexico was significant throughout the tournament. It wasn’t so good for the books when they were winning and they finally got beat and that turned out to be a good result.”
Asher also said draws after 90 minutes generally favored sportsbooks because bettors often backed one team to win. He added that tournament upsets also encouraged wagering.
Nevada outperformed many other regulated US markets during the World Cup. While states including Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York reported lower hold percentages, Nevada increased both handle and margin. Compared with June 2024, sportsbook handle has grown about 20%, while revenue has increased more than 69%.
Retail Expansion Continues
The month also brought regulatory and operational developments. The Nevada Gaming Control Board reached an agreement requiring prediction market operator Kalshi to stop accepting wagers in the state by Aug. 12 or face a $120,000-per-day penalty.
Reacting to the decision, Asher said: “Better late than never and it took a contempt motion to finally convince them to do what they should have done originally.”
Boomer’s Sportsbook also expanded at Baldini’s Sports Casino in Sparks, while Caesars Sportsbook partnered with the Westgate SuperBook, adding betting kiosks and continuing the SuperContest series for the 2026 football season.
“The SuperBook has been one of the defining sportsbook destinations in Las Vegas for decades,” said Eric Hession, president of Caesars Digital. “As sports fans prepare for football season, we’re enhancing its offerings with more ways to wager, more convenience and more flexibility while preserving everything that has made it special.”
“Our guests visit the SuperBook for the atmosphere, the viewing experience and the energy that simply can’t be replicated,” said Cami Christensen, president and general manager of Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.
