Ontario’s regulated online gambling market reached a new monthly wagering record in July, with total cash wagers climbing to CA$9.9 billion (US$7.1 billion). The figure represents a 30.7% increase from the same month a year earlier and marks the highest monthly handle since the province opened its competitive online gambling market in 2022.
The latest results also show continued growth in player participation. Monthly active player accounts rose 44% year-on-year to 1,365. Average revenue per active account moved in the opposite direction, falling 7.6% to CA$303 (US$218).
Casino Activity Remains The Main Market Driver
Online casinos continued to generate most of Ontario’s regulated gambling activity in July. The segment accounted for 89% of total cash wagers and 80% of non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR).
Casino wagering reached CA$8.8 billion (US$6.3 billion), an annual increase of 30.2%. NAGGR climbed 31% to CA$330 million (US$238 million).
The July figures follow a strong performance in May, when online casino players wagered CA$8.37 billion and generated CA$326.4 million in NAGGR. May’s results had already exceeded earlier monthly records for casino wagering and revenue, with the market continuing to account for the largest share of activity.
Sports betting also recorded substantial annual growth in July. Total cash wagers rose 44.2% to CA$992 million (US$715 million), giving the segment a 10% share of the market. Its NAGGR increased 47.2% to CA$78 million (US$56 million), equivalent to 19% of total NAGGR.
Peer-to-peer poker represented the remaining 1% of both measures. Its cash wagers declined 16.5% year-on-year to CA$116 million (US$84 million), while NAGGR fell 10.2% to CA$5.3 million (US$3.8 million).
Record Growth Comes Alongside Tighter Oversight
Ontario has established itself as Canada’s largest regulated online gambling market. During its third year of operation, the province recorded CA$82.7 billion (US$59.6 billion) in handle and CA$3.2 billion (US$2.3 billion) in gross gaming revenue.
The market’s expansion has also coincided with regulatory enforcement. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario recently fined gaming developer Booming Games CA$70,000 (US$50,427) after finding that its games used a prohibited auto-play feature.
The July figures therefore arrive as Ontario continues to post higher wagering levels while regulators maintain scrutiny over how gaming products operate.
The market has also seen operator changes during 2026. Rivalry suspended its Ontario operations in February, while Mobinc’s Conquestador left the province in April, followed by Casumo. Goldrush Gaming Group introduced BetNova during April, and PENN Entertainment launched its Hollywood Casino app in the province.
The latest monthly figures reinforce the scale of Ontario’s regulated market, with July producing its strongest cash-wagering result since legalization and casino activity continuing to account for the largest portion of overall play.
