Study Reveals Mismatch in Dutch Casino Game Demand

By | June 8, 2026

A new analysis of the Dutch online casino market suggests a significant disconnect between what players actively seek and what many licensed operators prominently display on their platforms.

According to research from Blask, the Netherlands’ regulated online gambling sector presents only part of the market picture. The report tracked 243 active operators serving Dutch players and found that 215 of them operate without a local license.

The findings indicate that consumer demand is concentrated around gaming formats that often receive limited visibility on regulated platforms. Meanwhile, offshore operators appear to be adapting more quickly to those preferences.

Search Trends Show Different Priorities

The study found that slots do not lead player interest in the Netherlands, despite occupying a dominant position in many licensed casino lobbies.

During the first quarter of 2026, Dutch players most frequently searched for blackjack and live dealer products. One individual game title accounted for nearly one-fifth of all player searches, making it the most sought-after game in the market.

The report argues that these preferences are not reflected in the structure of many regulated casino websites. Licensed operators continue to place slots in prominent positions, while some of the most searched-for formats receive less visibility.

Researchers identified major differences in lobby placement between regulated and offshore operators. Certain game formats appear in the first and second positions on offshore sites but are pushed far down licensed casino lobbies. In some cases, those formats do not appear until after row 44 or are missing entirely.

Offshore Sites Adjust to Player Demand

The data suggests that unlicensed operators have aligned their game presentation more closely with player search behavior.

By giving stronger visibility to blackjack-related products and live dealer experiences, offshore sites appear to be responding to categories that already generate significant consumer interest. The report describes this as a measurable gap between player demand and the content displayed by licensed operators.

Blask’s research also examines individual game categories, specific titles, operator approaches and lobby positioning across the market. The analysis allows stakeholders to compare game visibility with actual player demand.

Industry Groups Gain Market Insights

The findings are intended for several segments of the online gambling industry.

Licensed operators can use the data to evaluate how their current game selection and lobby layout compare with competitors that have already adjusted to player preferences. The report provides insight into which categories attract the greatest search interest among Dutch consumers.

Game suppliers may also benefit from understanding which products receive stronger demand from players. According to the analysis, several formats promoted heavily by offshore operators remain underrepresented within licensed casino lobbies.

For affiliates and gambling-focused media outlets, the research documents differences between licensed and offshore offerings on a title-by-title basis. The report suggests that these comparisons can help inform content focused on game availability, player demand and market trends within the Dutch online casino sector.
