The Dumfries Planning Commission has approved a request from Colonial Downs Group to build a gaming property in the City.

Colonial Downs’ Rose casino would be built on repurposed land connected to the Potomac Landfill.

The Dumfries Planning Commission unanimously supported the approval of the $389m gaming and entertainment destination. The plans must now gain the approval of Dumfries Town Council, which is expected to hold a public hearing on Tuesday September 21 to discuss the rezoning and conditional use permit needed for the project.

The Rose is expected to generate nearly $11m in annual local tax revenue for Dumfries and about $8m for Prince William County and to create more than 600 jobs with an average annual salary of $46,000.
