GameRefinery August Market review: Eminem and Justin Bieber the latest stars to enter mobile gaming

GameRefinery’s latest analysis of the US, China, and Japan’s key mobile game markets has just been released.

Here’s what they found:

  • August was a major month for music-related events. VMA Awards collaborated with Roblox where players could vote on the platform. Justin Bieber played on Garena Free Fire, and Beatstar collaborated with Eminem to promote Curtain Call PT.2

  • August was a considerable month for TV/film-related collaborations and events, namely the House of the Dragon in GOT Conquest, Mobile Legends collaborated with Kung Fu Panda, and a Japanese One Piece held a collaboration event that involved six different mobile games.

  • Sky: Children of the Light continues to prove its popularity in China with the launch of a new season causing a 2000% increase in revenue from August 2–5 on iOS.

  • The Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood game has been performing well in the Japanese market and continues to rank in the top-20 grossing titles.

  • Guild mechanics are starting to make their way into games that you wouldn’t typically associate them with. Appearing in a variety of genres including puzzle games and  RPGs. The most recent examples are Word with Friends 2 and Episode – Choose Your Story.
