Botswana’s biggest horse racing event, the TT Cup Challenge Horse Racing Event, has gained a new sponsor in PopOK, an Isle of Man iGaming solutions firm.
The Southern African country is an emerging market in the wider African betting and gaming industry, with the regulator there actively courting new market entrants.
PopOK sponsored the latest edition of the TT Cup Challenge Horse Racing Event, which took place on Saturday 27 June 2026 with 3,500 spectators present, the largest attendance to date.
The tech firm praised the Cup celebrating Botswana’s horse racing traditions while also ‘bringing together participants, families, and local communities’, while also creating ‘valuable opportunities for industry engagement”.
Botswana’s growing economy – with successive year-on-year growth for many years and projected growth of 1.2% in 2026 and 3.5% in 2027 according to the African Development Bank – has made it a popular destination for the betting space.
Notable newcomers to the local market in recent years include Sun Bet, the online betting division of South African betting and casino giant Sun International, which launched in Botswana in March 2025, while Super Group’s Betway launched in May 2025.
PopOK, which has launched a number of iGaming products this year, used the TT Cup as an opportunity to further engage with the emerging sector.
The company met with Moruntshi Kemorwale, Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Gambling Authority (BGA), and Jacob Kelebeng, Minister of Sport and Arts with the Botswana government.
”The sponsorship reflects PopOK Gaming’s;s broader strategy of building meaningful partnerships in key international markets while supporting initiatives that promote community engagement and responsible industry development,” a company statement read.
