Why operational expertise has become iGaming’s biggest competitive advantage

By | August 4, 2026

For years, operators evaluating an iGaming platform largely focused on two questions: How much does it cost? And what features does it offer?

Today, those questions still matter, but they are no longer enough.

As regulated markets become increasingly competitive and expansion strategies grow more ambitious, operators are beginning to judge platform providers by something far more valuable: whether they can genuinely help build and grow a successful gambling business.

Technology remains the foundation, but expertise, operational support and local market knowledge are increasingly becoming the differentiators.

According to George Ioakeimidis, Head of B2B Growth at Campeón Gaming, the industry’s expectations have fundamentally shifted.

“The market is definitely crowded, with many platform providers offering similar technology,” he explains. “Where Campeón Gaming really differentiates itself is that we combine proven technology with deep operational expertise and a true full-service approach.”

That distinction reflects a wider trend across the B2B sector. As platform technology continues to mature, fewer providers are competing solely on product functionality. Instead, success increasingly depends on how well they can support operators beyond the software itself.

Experience matters more than features

Launching an online casino has never been technically easier. Modern platforms can provide game aggregation, sportsbook integration, payments, CRM functionality and compliance tools in a single package.

The challenge, however, is knowing how to use them effectively.

This is particularly relevant as operators enter new regulated jurisdictions where understanding customer behaviour, compliance obligations and acquisition strategies can be just as important as selecting the right technology stack.

Ioakeimidis believes operators should spend as much time assessing the people behind a platform as the platform itself.

He commented: “Price and functionality will always be important, but they shouldn’t be the deciding factors. A platform is a long-term partner, so operators need to look beyond the technology itself.

“First, they should evaluate the experience of the leadership team and the people behind the platform. A provider with years of hands-on experience in both technology and operations is far better equipped to help operators overcome challenges and identify growth opportunities.”

Technology alone is no longer enough

One of the clearest shifts in recent years has been the growing expectation that platform providers become strategic partners.

Rather than supplying infrastructure and stepping back, operators increasingly expect assistance with compliance, customer support, CRM, payments, VIP management and marketing execution.

For Campeón Gaming, this philosophy sits at the centre of its business model.

“What really sets us apart is our full-service model,” Ioakeimidis noted. “We don’t just provide the technology, we provide the expertise needed to operate a successful iGaming business.

“Our partners have access to experienced teams covering Casino, Sportsbook, CRM, Customer Support, KYC/AML, VIP Support, Affiliates, Payments, Compliance and Legal.

“As a result, even an investor with little or no iGaming experience can launch and operate their own brand successfully. They bring the investment and vision, and we take care of the operational complexity.”

This broader support model also reflects how investment in iGaming is changing.

New entrants increasingly come from outside the gambling sector, bringing strong commercial ambitions but limited operational knowledge. For these businesses, reducing complexity can be just as valuable as reducing costs.

The evolution of white-label

Few areas of iGaming have changed perception as dramatically as white-label solutions.

Once viewed primarily as a shortcut into the market, white-label partnerships are being recognised as a strategic way to reduce risk while building long-term brands.

Ioakeimidis believes they remain particularly valuable for investors entering regulated gambling for the first time.

He stated: “White-label solutions have become a very important part of the iGaming ecosystem, especially for emerging operators and investors who want to enter the market in a structured and lower-risk way.

“Starting immediately with your own licence can significantly increase the initial investment and introduces additional risks.

“This is where a strong white-label partner can make a real difference. We provide not only the technology but also the knowledge, experience and operational support required to help new brands succeed.”

Speed without compromise

Speed to market has become another important consideration.

With competition intensifying across regulated jurisdictions, lengthy development cycles can mean missed opportunities and delayed revenue generation.

Building an entire platform internally remains an option for some established operators, but it demands significant financial investment, specialist expertise and considerable time.

Ioakeimidis argues that ready-made solutions allow businesses to focus resources where they create the greatest competitive advantage.

“Developing a complete iGaming platform internally requires significant investment, technical expertise, operational knowledge and a long development timeline,” he explained. “With Campeón Gaming, customers can go live in as little as six weeks with a fully operational brand, supported by proven technology and experienced teams.

“This allows them to enter the market quickly, start acquiring customers from day one and begin generating revenue without the delays and risks associated with building everything independently.”

Importantly, rapid deployment no longer means sacrificing brand identity.

While white-label products have historically been criticised for creating similar-looking operators, modern platforms increasingly offer greater levels of customisation.

Ioakeimidis continued: “The perception that white-label solutions limit flexibility does not reflect the reality of what Campeón Gaming offers.”

“Our partners can focus on their brand, marketing strategy and customer experience from the beginning. Operators have full control over key branding elements, including colours, logos and front-end visuals.

“As partners grow and their needs evolve, we are open to discussing further front-end customisations and dedicated front-end solutions.”

Local knowledge drives global expansion

Perhaps the greatest challenge facing operators today is expansion.

Entering regulated markets is no longer simply a question of obtaining licences and translating websites. Each jurisdiction brings unique player behaviour, payment preferences, compliance obligations and acquisition channels.

Without understanding those differences, even well-funded operators can struggle.

“Expanding into new markets is a major opportunity for operators, but success depends on much more than simply having the right technology,” Ioakeimidis said. “Local market expertise is equally, if not more, important.

“Understanding the local market allows operators to avoid costly mistakes, make smarter marketing decisions and build strategies that are aligned with local customer behaviour and expectations.

“Technology infrastructure must be built with each market’s specific regulatory requirements in mind.

“Successful market expansion requires both local expertise and a technology platform that can support the unique requirements of each jurisdiction.”

That philosophy extends beyond compliance into day-to-day operational support.

According to Ioakeimidis, helping operators enter new markets successfully means advising on payment methods, CRM strategies, affiliate partnerships and localisation rather than simply providing access to software.

He concluded: “We support operators by guiding them through local market requirements, ensuring that the platform setup and operations are aligned with the specific regulation. Our experienced CRM team develops tailored marketing and bonus strategies based on the specific characteristics and regulatory framework of each jurisdiction.

“Our affiliate team also plays an important role by leveraging its market knowledge and relationships with local affiliate partners.

“Ultimately, Campeón Gaming acts as a strategic partner, combining technology, operational expertise and local market knowledge to help operators successfully launch and grow in regulated markets.”
