Alberta’s upcoming regulated online gambling market continues to attract suppliers and sportsbook operators ahead of its July launch, with Gaming Corps becoming the latest company to secure approval from provincial regulators.
The Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC) granted Gaming Corps a conditional iGaming supplier licence through its subsidiary, Gaming Corps Malta Ltd. The authorization allows the company to provide gaming software in the province once the market officially opens on July 13, 2026.
The approval places Gaming Corps among the growing list of businesses preparing for Alberta’s shift into regulated online wagering. The province is set to become Canada’s second open iGaming market after Ontario launched its regulated system in 2022.
Gaming Corps plans to supply operators in Alberta with its casino titles and proprietary gaming mechanics as competition builds before launch.
Alex Lorimer, COO at Gaming Corps said: “Securing our Alberta licence marks another important step in Gaming Corps’ regulated market expansion strategy. Canada continues to represent a key growth region for us, and we’re excited to bring our expanding portfolio of games and unique mechanics to operators and players in Alberta.”
Operators Prepare for July Opening
Provincial regulators have already registered 28 companies seeking entry into Alberta’s online gambling sector. Eight sportsbook operators are expected to begin operations when the market opens, including BallyBet, BetMGM, BetRivers, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, FanDuel, PointsBet-Canada, and theScore Bet.
The province will continue offering PlayAlberta alongside private-sector operators. Officials also expect additional companies currently operating in gray markets to move into the regulated system over time.
Fanatics Betting & Gaming does not appear on the current list of approved operators and remains absent from Ontario’s regulated market as well.
Several sportsbooks have already started taking registrations from customers ahead of launch. DraftKings, Caesars Sportsbook, BetRivers, and theScore Bet are among the operators now accepting sign-ups before betting begins in July.
Sports Calendar Shapes Market Timing
The province aligned the market launch with a period of high-profile sporting activity. Alberta’s regulated betting market is scheduled to go live during the final week of the FIFA World Cup and shortly before Week 7 of the Canadian Football League season.
The World Cup final will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New York, while tournament matches will be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. CFL action connected to the launch period includes a July 18 game between the Calgary Stampede and the Montreal Alouettes.
Alberta projects that regulated online gambling could produce approximately CAD $100 million in annual tax revenue despite the province having a smaller population than Ontario.
The province has also approved a policy adjustment that permits gambling advertising through digital platforms, including Google Ads.
Gaming Firms Target Canadian Expansion
Gaming Corps’ licence approval reflects continued interest in Canada’s regulated gambling industry, particularly as Alberta prepares to open its market to private operators and suppliers.
The company has continued expanding across regulated jurisdictions in North America, with Alberta representing another step in that strategy. By obtaining approval ahead of launch, Gaming Corps positions itself to begin operating in the province from the opening day of the new framework.
