The Michigan Gaming Control Board has received national recognition for its expanded responsible gaming website after introducing new tools aimed at educating residents and addressing gambling risks among young people.
The board’s Don’t Regret the Bet website earned a Platinum Hermes Creative Award from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP), honoring the site’s redevelopment into a broader public resource. The recognition follows an expansion completed with King Media that added educational content, support services and prevention materials for several audiences across Michigan.
Expanded Website Adds Youth Gambling Prevention Resources
The redesigned platform replaces what had been a single-page resource with a multi-page website featuring responsible gaming guidance, downloadable educational materials and information for players, families, educators and community organizations.
A key addition is the Don’t Bet On Your Future initiative, which focuses on youth gambling prevention. The campaign responds to growing concern over teenagers’ exposure to online gambling and sports betting through social media, advertising and partnerships involving professional sports.
Research cited by the Michigan Gaming Control Board notes that teens who gamble face a substantially higher long-term risk of developing gambling problems. According to a University of Minnesota study by researcher Dr. Ken Winters, teenagers who gamble are four times more likely to develop a serious gambling problem later in life.
“The expansion of this website was about more than adding pages — it was about creating a meaningful public resource at a time when online gambling has become more visible and accessible than ever before,” said MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams. “We wanted to ensure Michiganders, especially parents and young people, could easily find trusted information, prevention tools, and support.”
The updated website launched ahead of the NCAA March Madness tournament, one of the busiest periods for sports betting, making responsible gaming information available during a peak wagering season.
Recognition Builds on Earlier Responsible Gaming Campaign
The website now includes dedicated responsible gaming education pages, youth-focused prevention resources through the Don’t Bet On Your Future campaign, access to the Problem Gambling Helpline, downloadable toolkits and educational materials. Community organizations and schools can also access resources that include funding of up to $4,000 for booster clubs to support youth gambling prevention efforts.
The Platinum Hermes Creative Award recognizes the website’s role as a public resource serving Michigan players, families and communities seeking responsible gaming information and support.
The latest honor follows another national award received by the Michigan Gaming Control Board in 2025. Last September, the board earned a Platinum dotCOMM Award for its “Mini Me” responsible gambling campaign in the Social Media Marketing – Use of Video category.
Created under the broader Don’t Regret the Bet initiative, the “Mini Me” campaign targeted adults aged 18 to 24 after research identified the group as particularly vulnerable to gambling-related harm. The video combined hand-drawn animation with live-action footage to present responsible gaming messages in an approachable format while avoiding stigma or moral judgment.
Together, the two award-winning projects reflect the Michigan Gaming Control Board’s continued focus on expanding responsible gaming education while increasing awareness of gambling risks among younger audiences and providing support resources for communities across the state.
