Ontario Online Casino Sets Record Wagering in May

By | June 29, 2026

Ontario’s regulated online casino market reached new monthly highs in May 2026, delivering its strongest performance since the province launched its competitive iGaming framework. Online casino activity established fresh records for both wagering volume and operator revenue, continuing to drive growth across the wider market.

Players staked $8.37 billion on online casino games during May, producing $326.4 million in non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR). Compared with the same month last year, wagering increased by 20.4%, while revenue climbed 25.6%.

Those figures surpassed previous monthly peaks of $8.33 billion in wagering, set in March 2026, and $320.7 million in revenue, recorded in December 2025.

Online Casino Continues to Lead Market Growth

Casino games accounted for 88% of all wagers placed during May and generated 79% of total non-adjusted gross gaming revenue.

Although iGaming Ontario (iGO) does not provide separate revenue figures for individual casino products, slot games likely represented the largest share of play.

The regulator also does not publish monthly government tax collections. Based on the province’s 20% share of NAGGR, Ontario would have received approximately $65 million from May’s online casino revenue.

Licensed operators accepted $9.48 billion in wagers across all regulated gaming products during the month. Although that total remained below the all-time record of $9.59 billion set in March, it still represented year-over-year growth of 17.5%.

Overall NAGGR reached $413.1 million, the highest monthly total of 2026 so far and 22.2% above May 2025. Based on results through the first part of 2026, Ontario’s online casino sector remains on pace to generate roughly $4 billion in annual revenue.

Several changes have reshaped the market this year. Rivalry suspended operations in Ontario during mid-February. Mobinc’s Conquestador exited the province in April, followed shortly afterward by Casumo. During the same month, Goldrush Gaming Group introduced BetNova, while PENN Entertainment launched its Hollywood Casino app in Ontario.

At the time of reporting, iGO listed 45 licensed operators managing 80 gaming sites across the province, excluding Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG). The regulator also reported nearly 1.26 million active player accounts during May, generating an average NAGGR of $329 over the 31-day period.

Sports Betting Holds Steady Before World Cup Impact

Sports betting represented a smaller share of Ontario’s regulated market. Online and mobile sportsbooks handled $972 million in wagers during May, equal to 10% of total betting activity.

That amount fell 7% compared with April and matched the total recorded in May 2025. Revenue, however, increased to $81.3 million in NAGGR, 13.1% above the $71.9 million earned during the same month last year.

June’s figures could show stronger betting activity when iGO publishes its next report in late July, as the opening weeks of the 2026 FIFA World Cup attracted significant wagering interest across Ontario sportsbooks.

Peer-to-peer poker continued to occupy only a small portion of the regulated market in both wagering and revenue. The future of expanding shared player pools beyond Ontario remains under review through a multi-provincial appeal before the Supreme Court of Canada.
